Week 4: Musing about Musescore

Aand we’re back with some cool, awesome, fun stuff to do this week! No more philosophying with me, no siree*

*I would like to make another public service announcement and say that this is indeed a lie as my whole inner existence is in constant state of crisis and therefore needs to philosophise at least 4 times a day (5 if I’m feeling extra spicy/existential) in order to not become but a mere floating ghost, asking myself whether I even exist, not to mention think 🧠

Week 3: To Technology or Not to Technology (That is the Question)

This week’s lecture was online-based which made it less hands-on than the two previous weeks (or did it? I mean doing technology class online makes sense… right? 😏)

Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed a more theoretical and philosophical approach to exploring ideas behind technology and its positive and negative impacts on the students. Just a little warning before I continue: this post will definitely be a bit longer and a bit more serious. It will also be a bit more rambly as I am currently up during the early (or late, it’s all about perspective) hours of the day, trying to sound intelligent so my sincerest apologies in advance!

Week 2: 1,2,3 Testing

I’m back with yet another awesome sharing time from my Technology in Music Education lecture!

The focus of the second lecture was really interesting because it dealt with different types of microphones and the way they can be used in variety of contexts. Naturally, we also discussed the implications of using these mics in an educational setting which was all quite fascinating to me. In the past, I was always very lucky to have had good sound engineers whenever I would perform either as a violinist or vocalist. They would tell me to play or sing into the microphone in front of me and I always gladly obliged. Words like ‘the mic is hot’ or ‘feedback’ would fly past me but really I wouldn’t have been able to tell you the difference between a hot mic and a hot potato. At least not until now, of course. I’m basically an expert now.

Week 1: These tracks were made for looping

Word of the day: Looping – using pre-recorded sound material which can be repeated and layered on top of one another to create ostinati patterns.

Two weeks ago (yes I know I am a liiittle behind on the updates), I had my first Technology in Music Education class and was genuinely overwhelmed with how little I knew about recording technology. To be fair, I was aware of my small technological knowledge prior to starting this class but I never really needed to face it, at least not until now. The fear didn’t linger for too long, however, as I realised that I was in the same boat as many of my classroom peers (and I’m sure some of you reading this blog post as well!). I guess that is quite telling of the type of music education we have all received at some point in the past.
