Hello again! This post is going to be a quick update on my progress as it mostly follows from the previous post I have written on all the different ukulele online learning channels . I just wanted to come back and talk a little bit about where I am at this point and my initial impressions.

As of this very second, I know all of 5 chords (taught myself the Em chord alongside the C,F, Am and G from the online tutorials) and was therefore able to play the chords for the beautiful rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo. G and Em chords are still the more difficult of the five. I am also trying to figure out the best way to hold the ukulele so I can make a comfortable shift between the chords without tensing up too much. Hopefully, one of the Yotuber ukulele channels will address this problem in one of their lessons.

My strumming isn’t very good at all so I am resorting to strumming on each beat with my thumb. This is probably the area I would like to see improve even more than my chord changes which I managed to learn in a matter of 1 hour. I did find that learning chords wasn’t as difficult because some of my violin skills do translate quite well, especially in my left hand.

Anywhoo, here is a video of me *attempting* to play and sing at the same time on the ukulele. It was late at night, I was tired, but I somehow felt inspired to share this progress with everyone who reads this blog 🙂
