Week 9: Do the mash-potato ๐ŸŽถ by Larisa feat. Ableton Live

Hello and welcome to my cooking blog where I teach you how to mash things together until it all kinda makes sense and doesn’t taste (ie sound) bad. ๐Ÿ˜

Of course I am not talking about actual food, though the food similes at the moment could be a result of a missed lunch. That’s ok, there’s a pizza with my name on it waiting for me. Until I get to munch on it, however, let me tell you a little bit about Ableton Live and how it can apply to teaching as well as your own creative musical outlet.

Week 8: Do you wanna build a snowman (that is also a midi instrument)?๐ŸŽถ

No, unfortunately there won’t be any snowman building described in this post as I am currently looking outside my window at a beautiful Australian autumn day of 29 Celsius degrees. So I guess I should apologise for, as the cool people of the internet say, click-baiting you. Run along now and don’t forget your mittens you so enthusiastically brought along.

Week 7: A little bit of synth and a little bit of Pi

I am back again and we are now in week 7 (if week 7 was in week 9 because of how regular I am with writing my blogposts ๐Ÿ˜…). I know I am probably getting a little repetitive whenever I mention my inability to technology at times, but every TME lecture is a little bit of a surprise at how many things I’ve actually never explored and this week’s topic was no different. In fact, it was probably a topic I knew absolutely zero things about and I can say that with complete confidence. What I am talking about is indeed synthesizers and computer programming, specifically music programming which I didn’t even realise was a thing so there you go ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hello world, meet Rosie

Rosie is my ukulele. I have named her and she is mine and we will make beautiful music together.

In other news, I will annoy everyone in my household by playing the one song I have learned yesterday, which, of course, is ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, the ukulele version which everyone loves to play once they know how to (I’m a trend follower, what can I say).

Week 5: I Am Ready for My Close-up ๐ŸŽž

This week was super fun because I got to live out my long-time dream of becoming a famous act-ohr. You guys just watch and wait, I will be big one day! Big, I tell ya!

Until then, though, I will continue writing these blog posts and keep you up to date with my technological journey ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ

Week 4: Musing about Musescore

Aand we’re back with some cool, awesome, fun stuff to do this week! No more philosophying with me, no siree*

*I would like to make another public service announcement and say that this is indeed a lie as my whole inner existence is in constant state of crisis and therefore needs to philosophise at least 4 times a day (5 if I’m feeling extra spicy/existential) in order to not become but a mere floating ghost, asking myself whether I even exist, not to mention think ๐Ÿง

Week 3: To Technology or Not to Technology (That is the Question)

This weekโ€™s lecture was online-based which made it less hands-on than the two previous weeks (or did it? I mean doing technology class online makes sense… right? ๐Ÿ˜)

Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed a more theoretical and philosophical approach to exploring ideas behind technology and its positive and negative impacts on the students. Just a little warning before I continue: this post will definitely be a bit longer and a bit more serious. It will also be a bit more rambly as I am currently up during the early (or late, it’s all about perspective) hours of the day, trying to sound intelligent so my sincerest apologies in advance!

Week 2: 1,2,3 Testing

Iโ€™m back with yet another awesome sharing time from my Technology in Music Education lecture!

The focus of the second lecture was really interesting because it dealt with different types of microphones and the way they can be used in variety of contexts. Naturally, we also discussed the implications of using these mics in an educational setting which was all quite fascinating to me. In the past, I was always very lucky to have had good sound engineers whenever I would perform either as a violinist or vocalist. They would tell me to play or sing into the microphone in front of me and I always gladly obliged. Words like โ€˜the mic is hotโ€™ or โ€˜feedbackโ€™ would fly past me but really I wouldnโ€™t have been able to tell you the difference between a hot mic and a hot potato. At least not until now, of course. Iโ€™m basically an expert now.
